FAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Hylton Mathews to the First Australians Capital Board.

Hylton is an experienced Chartered Accountant with a career spanning over three decades. Hylton’s professional journey began in South Africa, where he obtained his Chartered Accountant qualification in 1991.

Hylton worked at Deloitte and PwC, gaining valuable experience in auditing, and then ventured into the financial services sector. Hylton joined the Standard Bank of South Africa, where he worked in corporate and structured finance and then for a start-up infrastructure funding corporation as General Manager of Finance.

On relocating to Australia, Hylton had a year consulting in the financial services industry for Ernst & Young. Soon after, he joined JBWere and worked for a couple of years in the product development space for their private wealth management business. He later took on the role of Chief Operating Officer for Asset Management in 2005.

With the acquisition of JBWere by Goldman Sachs, Hylton continued as the COO, extending his responsibilities to cover parts of the Asia Pacific region for Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

In 2014, Hylton retired from corporate life and began focusing his time on a non-executive board role, consulting and executive coaching portfolio. Hylton has served on the boards of Goldman Sachs Australia Managed Funds, Yatta Capital and AvSuper, a public superannuation fund serving the aviation industry. In his various executive roles, Hylton has led businesses through significant changes, including integrating into global models, building new businesses, outsourcing, and divesting.

Hylton is the Chief Operating Officer of Brightlight, an impact and advisory firm focused on delivering world-class solutions for values-led investors.
